A gorgeous capture and view. I always wanted to go, but couldn't because of the elevation.

Kandy Hurley replied:

Thanks ~ I can understand that, Cusco is where you fly into and its a bit over 11,000 elevation. Machu Picchu is a bit lower but not by much.

Artist's Description

The view from Machu Picchu is like stepping back in time.On my second day I was lucky to get there early and have many areas of the citadel to myself. Built in the 15th century it’s known for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar.
There are approximately 200 structures making up this outstanding religious, ceremonial, astronomical and agricultural centre. The structures are set on a steep ridge, crisscrossed by stone terraces. Following a rigorous plan the city is divided into a lower and upper part, separating the farming from residential areas, with a large square between the two.
