Artist's Description

This was taken at San Javier Mission, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The mission has a long history and is somewhat remote. The small village is located atop a long and winding dirt road but for me it was worth every bump along that road.
The site was originally inhabited by the Cochimes, who named the place Vigg Biaund. Jesuit Father Francisco Mara Piccolo visited the place on May 11, 1699. He started the construction of a chapel in October of the same year and Father Juan Mara de Salvatierra dedicated it to All Saints the on the first of November.
