. The Anhinga in some cultures is considered a bird with magical qualities like patience, healing and it's said they will teach you ways to spread your own wings of possibilities. What a great concept ~ keeping that in mind, this piece started with a photograph and then I pulled out the watercolors. So the more scientific reasons are the Anhinga's oil glands are not as developed as most birds. Their feathers aren't as waterproof, so they often need to perch with wings spread open to dry its feathers and warm its body.
Whatever the reason I think they are beautiful and magical to watch.
