Chiaroscuro lighting on the standup bass provides this photograph with a dramatic play of light and shadow.I have also used a light texture to add some depth and interest to the image. Chiaroscuro is Italian for light-dark in art it is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. Chiaroscuro also is a technical term used by artists and art historians for using contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional objects, such as the human body. Similar effects in the lighting of cinema and photography also are often called chiaroscuro.In photography, chiaroscuro often is effected with the use of Rembrandt lighting which is usually associated with portrait work featuring a triangle or diamond shape just under the eye.
